Amber Bistro in Danville

Amber Bistro located in downtown Danville, is a contemporary restaurant with warm wood hues and is located next to Bridges. (A scene in the movie, Mrs. Doubtfire was filmed at Bridges). Owner Eric Janssen is a certified sommelier who has created a wine list that pairs with well with the entire menu. Executive Chef, Shane Hammett is a graduate from the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Program at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. Shane has worked at restaurants in both San Francisco and wine country. “I am very excited to bring my style of refined wine county cuisine to the EastBay.” says Hammett. The combined talents of both Janssen and Hammett bring a unique blend to Amber Bistro in Danville.

It had been a while since I have spent some quality time with my long time friend Pam from college. We decided to meet for lunch and try somewhere new. We landed at Amber Bistro on a Friday. The weather was a perfect 85 degrees and we enjoyed the floor to ceiling doors that opened up onto the patio, with a gentle breeze sweeping into the restaurant. I decided to start with a glass of Whitehall Sauvignon Blanc which was absolutely perfect - crisp, cold and hints of tropical fruit. Pam enjoyed a large glass of ice tea.

After perusing the menu, we both selected the “trio plate” consisting of soup, salad and a sandwich. Pam chose the Half Dungeness Crab Melt Sandwich with Cesar Salad and Miso Soup. The crab melt was on a sourdough baguette with provolone cheese, roasted red bell pepper, red onion and cilantro. I selected the Half Chicken Sandwich with Baby Green Salad and Cucumber Gazpacho. The chicken was grilled and on a ciabatta roll with cheddar, bacon, grilled onions and lemon aioli.

Both lunch selections were very tasty. The idea of the trio plate was terrific, so you can enjoy many tastes and textures. We finished the meal with a latte that had three distinct layers and was better than having dessert. It was a bit quiet the day we went, however, the service and the quality of the food was very good. Great to have some quality time with Pam and plan our annual Holiday Party in December.
