Spicy Oyster Crackers | Friday Night Bites

I am not a real sports fan BUT I am excited that the iconic Super Bowl 50 is being played in the San Francisco Bay Area.  The hype around the Bay Area for this historic event is epic.  San Francisco is buzzing, the embarcadero is shut down except for Super Bowl City and the south bay is gearing up for the crowds to descend on Sunday. 

Even though Hubby and I are not huge sports fans, we will probably watch the game and indulge in spinach dip, pigs in a blanket and a bit of beer.  Since we have our Friday Night Bites tradition, I thought we would have a prelude to some game day food.  I made these Savory and Spicy Crackers that are simply hard to put the bowl down.  I can’t believe how simple they are to make yet so incredibly satisfying.  They certainly paired well with a cold beer.

Hubby and I discovered Lagunitas on a trip to Chicago a few years ago.  At first we thought it was made there and soon discovered it was produced in Petaluma which is just a little over an hour away from our house.  Although, they do have a presence in Chicago with a tap room located in the city. We fell in love with the “Little Sumpin”.  This beer is smooth and silky with a wheaty-ness to it. It has a citrus undertone to it and strong hop finish.  It you like an IPA, you will love this beer.

Spicy Oyster Crackers

1 (9oz) Package of Oyster Crackers
1 (1 oz) Package of Ranch Dressing Mix
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
2 to 4 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (depending how spicy you like)
½ Cup Canola or Vegetable Oil
½ Cup Parmesan Cheese, Grated

In a large bowl, add the oil, ranch dressing mix, garlic powder, parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes.  Mix well.  Add the oyster crackers and gently toss to cover all crackers.

Preheat an oven to 250 degrees.

Pour the cracker mixture onto a baking sheet and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly golden brown.  Let cool.  Store in an airtight container.
